Hailey
Hailey began as a show dog. Once she gained her championship she was retired from the show ring and was bred. Hailey had a hard time having a litter, so she wasn't used for breeding any longer and was placed in a pet home.
She was in a pet home for many years, along with another Schnauzer that the woman had purchased from the breeder. The two got along very well and everything seemed great.
Several years pass and when Hailey was 11 years old (the other dog 12 years), the woman who owned them was getting remarried and the dogs no longer fit into her lifestyle. She took the dogs to the vet to put them down, and thankfully someone at the vets office said that their mother would take the dogs.
That womans mother did take the dogs, but after a short time (less than a week) that woman took the dogs to the humane shelter because she said the dogs were shedding. First of all, Schnauzers are not a breed that sheds, so apparently she just didn't want to deal with two older dogs.
The shelter checked the dogs for microchips and was able to contact the breeder from the information on the chips. I didn't need another dog, but I'd known Hailey and Daisy (the other dog) all of their lives since I work for the breeder, and knew that placing them was going to be difficult due to their ages. So, my sister took Daisy and I took Hailey on December 9, 2008.
As of this writing, I've had Haily for almost a week and things are going great- she is fitting right in with the boys and is even starting to show them that "women rule".
