Miniature Pinscher Information
![]() |
The Miniature Pinscher is a German breed that has been around for many centuries. The real developement of the breed began in 1895 when Germany's Pinscher Klub was formed. It is thought that the Miniature Pinscher comes from crossings of a smooth coated Dachshund with a Italian Greyhound and German Pinscher.
The Miniature Pinscher seems similar to the Doberman Pinscher, however they are not Miniature Dobermans. The Miniature Pinscher was a recognized breed in Germany long before the Doberman was developed.
Miniature Pinschers are a very intelligent and lively breed. They are small dogs, standing at 10 to 12 inches tall at the shoulders, but have the spirit of a much larger dog. They are excellent watchdogs, and will alert you to any odd sights and sounds they may come across.
They have a very short, slick coat. Coloring can be solid red, stag red, or black with rust colored markings. Grooming for this breed is very simple. Bathing and brushing as needed, as well as nail trimming and ear cleaning are usually all that is needed. These dogs tend to get cold easily, so if you plan on walking your dog daily, you may want to look into getting him a sweater.
