Keeshond Information

The Keeshond comes from the same strains that produced the Chow Chow, Samoyed, Norwegian Elkhound, Finnish Spitz and Pomeranian.
It took a national political turnover in Holland to bring the Keeshond to wide attention in the later part of the 18th century. The Keeshond were never hunters and never used for any specialized forms of work, they were simply adored for their personality and affection.
Many Keeshonden tend to bark a great deal, especially when unhappy. They don't do well in kennel type situations and will be very vocal to show their unhappiness.
Males should stand at 18 inches tall, females 17 inches. Coloring can be a mixture of gray, black and cream.
Health concerns with the breed include Hip Dysplasia, luxating patella and heart disease.
