Interview with Touche` Lowchens

How did you first get involved in your breeds?

My first breed 30 years ago was Rottweilers, a wonderful breed. I was attracted to the Lowchen because of the cut,size,coat and wonderful good heath of the breed. We purchase Touche` before the AKC recognized them and fell in love with the breed.

What was the most appealing part of the Havanese & Lowchen?

Size,smart, non-shed non-allergic coat, and health.

What were the drawbacks to the breeds?

Smart

Would you recommend your breeds to the novice dog owner?

Yes

What are the known problems in the breeds?

none

What are you (and other breeders) doing to help with problems?

We Cerf the eyes for PRA because Poodles are in the background of the breed.

What added problems are seen in the backyard bred/pet store dogs that are not in well bred dogs (of your breed)?

We have never seen a lowchen in a pet store, as of yet we are still very rare.

Do you recommend your breed to people with children of all ages?

I do!

What type of excercise schedule to you recommend for your breeds?

This breed can do anything, but just wants to be with you.

What type of feeding do you recommend for your breeds?

Eukanuba small breed

When selling a puppy, how do you decide on the sale price?

Quality of the dog Show or pet home Owners.

What is your greatest expense with your dogs?

AKC showing

Would you recommend your breeds to people with other animals (cats, dogs, rodents)?

Depends on the situation. Mostly yes.

Would you recommend your breeds to someone without a fenced in yard?

Probably not.

What is the best way to keep your breeds coat looking great (pet, and show)?

Brush and washing.

When your dogs have finished with their show career and are no longer being bred, what do you do with them?

Retired dogs are can be placed in home. Some Junior handlers will use them.

What measures do you take to screen potential puppy buyers?

We ask for veterinarian reference we interview them, met them in person.
