Interview with StoneRidge Cane Corsos
How did you first get involved in Cane Corsos
Our very good friend owned a cane corso. We had never heard of them, but very impressed with their personality, size, looks.
What was the most appealing part of the breed?
We really love our dogs. They are such and asset to our family and farm. Great all around dog!
What were the drawbacks to the breed?
Some not so good drawbacks of the breed are "eye issues",hip dysplasia. People prejudging the dog by it's intimidating looks.
Would you recommend Cane Corsos to the novice dog owner?
no
What are the known problems in the breed?
hip dysplasia, entropion, ectropion, demodex mange.
What are you doing to help with those problems?
Testing for good hips, elbows, eyes. Selective breeding.
Sadly there are pet stores/backyard breeders nearly everywhere now, you do you get people to understand about the quality of your dogs compared to those?
I feel visiting a kennel really gives you an idea as to what type of breeder you are.Trying to voice, show in your contracts that you truely do care about the breed and the dog you are selling.
What added problems are seen in the backyard bred/pet store dogs that are not in well bred Cane Corsos?
I see alot of "shy" fearful dogs...very limited socialization. This is a must with this breed.
Do you recommend Cane Corsos to people with children of all ages?
yes. As with any dog only with supervision.
What type of excercise schedule to you recommend?
Moderate amount of activity required. At the very least a few walks a day.
What type of feeding do you recommend?
We recommend Canidae.
When selling a puppy, how do you decide on the sale price?
Pick puppy Breed/show puppy companion puppy
What is your greatest expense with your dogs?
vet bills Would you recommend Cane Corsos to people with other animals?
yes
Would you recommend Cane Corsos to someone without a fenced in yard?
they must be an active person.
What is the best way to keep a Cane Corsos coat looking great?
weekly bathing. requires minimal grooming.
When your dogs have finished with their show career and are no longer being bred, what do you do with them ?
Currently we keep them. Can't part yet.
What measures do you take to screen potential puppy buyers?
puppy applications. Phone conversations,Farm visits
