How did you first get involved in Rottweilers?

I bought a puppy from a newspaper ad from the first litter I looked at, in 1988.

What was the most appealing part of the Rottweiler?

Temperament and working ability

What were the drawbacks to the Rottweiler?

Territorial, health issues, shedding

Would you recommend Rottweilers to the novice dog owner?

What are the known problems in the Rottweilers?

Hips, elbows, heart, eyes, temperament, cancer

What are you (and other breeders) doing to help with those problems?

Selectively breeding only healthy dogs, health testing, and disclosing all results to the OFA database.

Sadly there are pet stores/backyard breeders nearly everywhere now, you do you get people to understand about the quality of your dogs compared to those?

Honestly, generally high quality dogs are sought out by educated people who want a healthy dog who looks like its breed.

What added problems are seen in the backyard bred/pet store dogs that are not in well bred dogs?

lack of breed type, health issues, temperament problems

Do you recommend Rottweilers to people with children of all ages?

What type of excercise schedule to you recommend for Rottweilers?

Young dogs and puppies need lots of time to free exercise. Older dogs in this breed generally do fine with much less.

What type of feeding do you recommend for Rottweilers?

Raw food is best in my opinion

When selling a puppy, how do you decide on the sale price?

I have standard prices for pet or show prospect puppies, which have to do with the overall cost of breeding.

What is your greatest expense with your dogs?

Showing.

Would you recommend Rottweilers to people with other animals (cats, dogs, rodents)?

Not in general.

Would you recommend Rottweilers to someone without a fenced in yard?

Not in general, altho there are exceptions.

What is the best way to keep the Rottweiler coat looking great?

Very little grooming is needed with this breed other than a good brushing a couple times a week to help cut down on shedding in the house.

When your dogs have finished with their show career and are no longer being bred, what do you do with them?

It depends on the dog. Some I might place in pet homes. Most remain here with me.

What measures do you take to screen potential puppy buyers?

I use a questionnaire, and I do not sell to people I have not taken the time to get to know.
