Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla Information
The creation of the Wirehaired Vizsla began in the 1930's. Some Vizsla's had thicker coats which gave them much better protection in cover and water. One of the thicker coated females was crossed with a German Wirehaired Pointer. Two matings with the same male and two different females were performed. The results from these matings produced the Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla.
If you're seeking a family pet and an incredible hunting dog, check with The North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA) about having your dog tested to see his/her hunting abilities.
Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla's are very high energy dogs and need an outlet to vent their energy. Being cooped up in the house all the time, especially when your dog is young, will not make for a happy dog. They can become destructive if they do not have any other way to vent energy. Long outdoor play sessions, long walks, jogging or swimming are great family activities you can do with your Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla to keep him happy.
Males should stand 23 to 25 inches tall and weigh 45 - 60 pounds, females 21 to 24 inches tall and weigh 40 - 55 pounds.
The Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla can be registered with the Canadian Kennel Club, North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association, American Rare Breed Association, United Kennel Club, Federation Cyologique International, as well as several other clubs.
Health concerns with the Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla include Hip Dysplasia, eye disease and cancer. Purchasing from a reputable breeder who does all the proper health screenings prior to breeding will help to assure that your puppy will not have these problems.
