Switching Dog Foods

No dog should have their diet changed suddenly. Doing so is risking your dogs life. If a dogs diet is switched to soon, many will begin vomiting, have loose stools, and can even get Hemorragic Gastroenteritis, which can be fatal without quick treatment.

If you are switching your dog to a different formula of the same brand of food, you still may need to use this guide depending on your dogs sensitivity. If you are unsure of your dogs sensitivity to switching diets, don't risk it- use the guide to change your dog.

This guide is based on a dog who has a daily food intake of 4 cups. For dogs who eat more/less per day, adjust the amounts accordingly.

Day 1
1 tablespoon new food mixed with old food
Day 2
2 tablespoons new food mixed with old food
Day 3
2 tablespoons new food mixed with old food
Day 4
4 tablespoons new food mixed with old food
Day 5
4 tablespoons new food mixed with old food
Day 6
1/2 cup new food mixed with 3.5 cups old food
Day 7
1/2 cup new food mixed with 3.5 cups old food
Day 8
1 cup new food mixed with 3 cups old food
Day 9
1 cup new food mixed with 3 cups old food
Day 10
2 cups new food mixed with 2 cups old food
Day 11
2 cups new food mixed with 2 cups old food
Day 12
3 cups new food mixed with 1 cup old food
Day 13
3.5 cups new food mixed with 1/2 cup old food

If you notice any changes in your dogs bowel movements, lethargy, or vomiting, consult a vet immediatly.
