Breeder Requirements
Breeder must test dogs prior to breeding them. Hips, elbows, eyes, etc., (whatever problems are known in the breed) must be checked and dog must be of good or excellent status to be bred.
Breeder should compete with their dogs or have them trained to do a task. Competition does not have to be in conformation, it can be in hunting, agility, etc., but the breeder should do some sort of activity/training with their dogs. What we consider to be acceptable are:- Conformation
- Schutzhund/Protection
- Obedience
- Agility
- Tracking
- Herding
- Earthdog
- Hunting
- Dockdogs
- Therapy Dog
- Detection dog (ie. Drug Detection)
- Guide Dog
- Search and Rescue
Other forms of competition/training are judged on a case by case basis. The dogs who are titled/certified must be owned by the breeder and not just in the pedigree of the breeders dogs. For example, if you breed to another breeders Champion dog, that does not count as you having a titled dog.
Due to the massive amount of puppymills/backyard breeders in the USA, we are much more stict with USA breeders.
Certain breeders who breed dogs who are not an AKC showable 'variety' of a breed may be listed due to their health testing/activities with their dogs as well as restrictions/requirements for their puppy purchasers (spaying/neutering, etc).
Each breeder is judged on a case by case basis partly depending on:
- breed of dog
- health testing
- titles/activities
- spay/neuter contracts
Breeder must take back the puppies, at any stage of life. You bred the litter, and you are responsible for all the litters you produce for their entire lives. If you cannot take back the dogs, you must have in your contract that you are to be contacted if ownership of dog changes, and that the dog should never be put into a humane shelter or rescue group.
If you live in the United States and breed an American Kennel Club recognized breed, your dogs must be registered with the AKC. You may have the registered with other registries as well, but one must be the AKC. This is due to the "trend" of many breeders switching registries due to lack of regulations in the registry.
We do not accept any breeder who registers their dogs with the Dog Registry of America, Dog Registry of the United States, or any registry of their kind.
Breeder must sell their puppies on limited registrations and with a spay/neuter contract. This does not apply if the puppy is intended for showing and future breeding, and only applies for breeders in the United States.
Breeder must not sell puppies through the internet without screening prospective owners to assure they are suitable for a dog. If there is a "buy now" link on your website where the person can pay through paypal or another service of the type, your listing will be denied. If you choose to use this method for buyers to pay, you must have this on a seperate page that is not linked to anywhere on your website. After you screen buyers, you can give them the page address to go to and pay for the puppy.
Breeder must not have ever sold/given a litter away to a pet store or broker. We also do not permit breeders who have given/sold a dog to an auction.
No listings will be approved without a link back to our website. You can either link back to our main page or link to the page your listing will be on. We have numerous image codes you can choose from on our link to us page, or you can form your own text listing if you'd like. If you are approved, you will be sent an email stating that you have been approved and this email will contain a link to a page that is not linked to anywhere on our website. This is a page full of images and HTML code that you may put on your site stating that you are listed in our reputable breeder directory.
If your listing is approved, and at any time a complaint is made or we find information that leads us to believe you have participated in unethical breeding practices, your listing will be removed without notice. Listings are a courtesy, not a right. If your listing is removed and we have photos of your dogs on the website, they will be removed as well.
We check breeder websites from time to time- if at any time your website fails to appear, your link will be suspended. A suspended link will send visitors to a page stating that your link is no longer active. If you find your link is disabled and your website is running again, you must contact us to activate your link again.
We do not accept breeders of the following breeds or "varieties"
LabradooodlesGoldendoodles
Maltipoos
Schnoodles
Cocapoos
Any other mixed breed dog
Any breeder using the term "teacup" to describe their puppies will not be allowed, even if you meet all of our other requirements.
Though the following may be able to be shown in all breed shows, we do not recognize them as an actual variety, and will not list breeders of these dogs:
  White Doberman Pinchers
  Parti- Colored Schnauzers
Chocolate SchnauzersAbove are the rules for having a listing on this website. Some "breeders" may not like the rules, but those who breed responsibly and correctly will have no problems with any of these requirements.
