Sporting Lucas Terrier Information
The Sporting Lucas Terrier was named for Major Sir Jocelyn Lucas. After returning home from World War I, he began breeding
Sealyham Terriers. He became concerned about the increasing size of the show-bred Sealyhams so he began crossing them with
Norfolk Terriers. These breedings produced a small working terrier.
Although a relatively new breed, the Sporting Lucas Terrier is fast making a name for itself as the ideal little working dog and pet, equally at home in the field and the house.
The Sporting Lucas Terrier is double-coated. The outer coat is harsh and stiff, straight, lying close to the body, about 1.5 inches in length. The undercoat is thick and dense.
There are two primary combinations of color in this breed:
Predominantly white bodied with markings of any shade of brown, grizzle or badger-gray, and black, with or without tan.
Colored any shade of brown, black and tan, or grizzle and tan. Small white markings are acceptable on the chest, brisket and feet.
Males should be 11 to 13 inches tall and weigh 14 to 18 pounds. Females should be 10 to 12 inches tall and weigh 11 to 15 pounds.
