Spanish Mastiff Information
The Spanish Mastiff is native to the region of Estremadura in Spain. They originated from the ancient Molosser dog, that can be traced back to 2000 years BC. These dogs were most likely introduced to the Iberian Peninsula by Phoenician tradesmen who had brought them from India.
The Spanish Mastiff is a natural guardian of family, livestock and the home. They're rarely seen outside of Spain, however are growing in numbers in other countries.
The Spanish Mastiff should be 28-35 inches tall. Males should weigh 185-220 pounds, females should be 145-170 pounds.
Health concerns in the breed include Hip Dysplasia and Panosteitis.
