Boerboel Information
The Boerboel's beginnings date back to the 17th century when South African farmers developed a sturdy working breed from various European mastiff-type dogs as well as large dogs that were native to Africa.
The Boerboel is a very athletic Mastiff, like the original Mastiff of the old days. They are capable of doing all types of work.
The Boerboel adores their family and loves to be near them. They are fairly suspicious of strangers and very protective of their home and family. They do well with dog-friendly children, and will do well with other animals if raised with them properly.
Males should stand between 25 to 28 inches tall, females 23 to 25.5 inches. At full growth, they typically weigh 110 to 165 pounds. Their coat is short and the coloring can be brindle, yellow, gray, reddish brown, brown, with white markings or without black muzzles.
