Russo European Laika Information
The Russo European Laika originated near the border of Russia and Finland in the 1700's. The breed was already an excellent moose and wolf hunter, but crossings with the fearless Utchak Sheepdog widened its role to encompass bear hunting.
This is a powerfully built dog, characterized by its black and white coloration and pricked ears. If present, its tail is curled, but this breed is often born without a tail.
The Russo European Laika cannot be regarded as a house dog or pet. They should be between 21-24 inches tall and weigh 45-50 pounds. Other names for the Russo European Laika is the Karelian Bear Laika and the Lajka Ruissisch Europaisch.
