The Podengo Portugueso Medio originated in Portugal in the 1800's. They were derived from the Podengo Portugueso Medio, and both breeds are bred with wire and smooth coated forms.

The Podengo Portugueso Medio is sometimes described a resembling a sturdy Chihuahua, but there seems to be no ancestral link between the two breeds. The Medio is in fact a miniature sight hound, a well proportioned little dog, with a body longer than it is tall.

They should be 15-22 inches tall and weigh 35-44 pounds. Another name for the Podengo Portugueso Medio is the Small Portuguese Hound.
