Miniature Australian Shepherd Information
The Miniature Australian Shepherd is basically an
Australian Shepherd of a smaller size. It is not a new breed or rare breed, it is a smaller version of the Australian Shepherd.
The Miniature Aussie has been around for a great deal of time. In the 1960's, an Aussie enthusiast acquired several small working Aussies from the rodeo circuit. She was intrigued by their compact size and wanted to develop a breeding program to preserve the trait. These litters produced dogs that were they "typical" Aussie size as well as dogs that were only 13 to 14 inches tall.
The Miniature Aussie attracted the attention of experienced Aussie breeders as well as newcomers to the breed. Lines were researched and it was found that breeding to the full size Australian Shepherds was best so that they could diversify the gene pool and improve conformation and type.
The Miniature Australian Shepherd's height varies from 14-18 inches and weigh 20-40 pounds.
