Lurcher Information
The Lurcher originated in Ireland in the 1600's. Traditionally, this dog has been bred for speed and responsiveness, often by Gypsies in Ireland, who used Collie and Greyhound crosses, as well as other breeds, to suit their purposes.
There is considerable variation in the appearance of Lurchers, because they are not bred to conform to any standard. However, in general, the Lurcher has an athletic build and a wiry coat, now usually the result of cross-breeding involving deerhounds.
The Lurcher should be 27-30 inches tall and weigh 60-70 pounds.
