Large French Pointer Information
The Large French Pointer originated in France in the 1600's. It is believed that they descended from the old, extinct Southern Hound and is also closely related to the Italian and Spanish Pointer
During the later part of the 19th century, the breed declined in popularity and was in danger of dying out. Recent efforts among enthusiasts have resulted in a considerable boost in numbers of the breed. Though they are still uncommon, their future does seem assured now.
These are large dogs, standing between 22 to 27 inches tall and weighing 45 to 71 pounds. They are very strong with a well muscled physique.
