Kooikerhondje Information
After World War I, the Kooiker Dog was nearly extinct. Baroness V. Hardenbroek van Ammerstool was determined to revive the breed and gave one to a peddler to find more dogs like the Koiker. The peddler found more dogs, and the first litter of these new dogs was born in 1943.
The Kooiker Dog is well known in the Netherlands and is reputed to have foiled the assassination attempt on Prince William II by barking and waking him up just in time.
It has been thought that the Kooiker Dog played a role in the development of the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever
They enjoy roaming, so a fenced yard is required. They do well with dog friendly children.
Kooiker Dogs should stand 14 to 16 inches tall and weigh between 20 - 24 pounds. Their coat is moderately long and slightly wavy. Coloring should be white with patches of red.
