King Shepherd Information
The King Shepherd was created in the United States by crossing several breeds. American style German Shepherd Dogs were mated with Alaskan Malamutes or theGreat Pyrenees, and the offspring from those litters were bred to German Shepherds from European lines. The result was a breed that is very similar to the German Shepherd Dog, however larger and more strongly built.
These are large dogs, males standing at 27 to 29 inches tall and weighing 120 - 145 pounds, females should be 25 to 27 inches tall and weigh 90 - 110 pounds. Their coat can be either coarse or longhaired and can be various colors including sable, bi-colored, black saddle with red, tan, gold, cream or silver markings, or can be solid black or solid white.
King Shepherds are not hyper or aggressive. They are aloof with strangers and highly trainable. They do very well in obedience, personal protection and search and rescue.
The main health concern with the King Shepherd is Hip Dysplasia. To help reduce the risk of your puppy having this, be sure to buy your puppy from a breeder who tests their dogs for hip issues prior to breeding.
