Jura Laufhund St. Hubert Information
The Jura Laufhund St. Hubert originated in Switzerland in the 1500's. They are thought to have a close relationship with the now-extinct St. Hubert Hound of France. This Swiss breed is certainly derived from French stock.
Although the black and tan coloration of this hound suggests a close affinity with the Bruno Jura Laufhund, it is somewhat different in appearance. It tends to be of heavier build, with wrinkled skin on its forehead, resembling the Bloodhound. The black markings take the form of a saddle over the back, or they may be more widespread, typically on the head and legs, contrasting with the tan areas.
The word laufhund means "walking dog". A keen tracker, it bays loudly when following a scent. This laufhund has plenty of stamina and is used to hunt a variety of game, ranging from small hares and foxes to larger animals such as deer.
They should be between 18-23 inches tall and weigh 34-44 pounds. Another name for the Jura Laufhund St. Hubert is the Jura Hound.
