Japanese Terrier Information
The Japanese Terrier originated in Japan in the 1700's. They descended from the Smooth Fox Terrier, which was introduced to Japan in 1702. The subsequent development of this breed centered on the cities of Kobe and Yokohama.
The Japanese Terrier has a relatively small head and tail that is traditionally docked quite close to the body. Its tricolor coat is distinctive- mostly white, with the black and tan areas proportionately small in size, creating an attractive speckled appearance.
In Japan, the Japanese Terrier can be seen working as a water-fowl retriever. They should be 13 inches tall and weigh 10 to 13 pounds. Another name for the Japanese Terrier is the Nippon Terrier.
