Frontline
Frontline is a topical flea and tick killer. It will kill fleas within 18 hours of contact and ticks will die within 48 hours.
Frontline is sold in packages of 3, 6 and 12. Each dose is in an easy to apply tube- one tube per dose. You apply it to the back of the neck monthly.
What's the difference between Frontline and Frontline plus? Frontline plus also includes an extra ingredient to not only kill adult fleas but will break the life cycle by killing their eggs and larvae.
Frontline is available without a prescription, and it's even available at some of the larger supermarket stores as well.
Keep in mind that for those with multiple pets, you do need to watch your pets closely after you apply Frontline- to make sure that another pet does not lick the product off of another pet. It's also extremely important not to use Frontline for dogs on cats, and to use the correct dosage for the weight of your dog.
Is Frontline safe? Yes, but with all products, some dogs may have reactions to Frontline that others will not. There isn't a widespread problem with Frontline by any means, but each dogs reacts differently to medications (even foods) than others. My personal rule for giving medications to dogs is to only do it as prescribed and when I know the vet is open (just in case)- plus to always be home with the dogs for the first day of the medication so that I can watch them to notice any bad effects.
