Induce Vomiting

DO NOT Induce Vomiting if your dog:

  • Swallows an acid, alkali, solvent, or heavy duty cleaner.
  • Is severely depressed or comatose.
  • Swallows a petroleum product.
  • Swallows tranquilizers (which prevent vomiting).
  • Swallows sharp objects (which could lodge in his esophagus or perforate his stomach.
  • If more than two hours have passed since the poison was swallowed.


  • Induce vomiting by giving:
  • Syrup of ipecac (1 teaspoonful per 10 pounds of body weight)
  • or
  • Hydrogen peroxide 3%. Give one to three teaspoonfuls every 10 minutes, repeat 3 times.or
  • One-half to one teaspoonful of salt, placed at the back of the tongue.
