Damp Hay Itch
This condition is caused by the larvae of a threadlike worm found on damp marsh hay. The larvae burrow into the skin of the dogs chest, abdomen and feet, causing raised pimple-like bumps. Later, you may see raw crusted and inflamed areas where the dog has scratched and infected his skin.
The disease is found among dogs living outdoors, or housed on damp marsh hay. The diagnoses is made by examining skin scrapings under the microscope.

Kill worm larvae by dipping your dog in an insecticide solution once a week until he is free from itching. Bathe infected areas with a mild soap and then apply a topical ointment such as Neosporin three times a day. Change the bedding from hay to cedar shavings, cloth, or paper shreds.
