The Hanoverian Mountain Hound is a calm, loyal dog which was developed in Germany in the 1700's. They were developed by gamekeepers around Hanover. They descend from heavy tracking hounds crossed with lighter ones, such as the Haidbracke.
The Hanoverian Mountain Hound is relatively heavy in build, with short legs, and is often used to track an animal that has been wounded but not killed outright. They often have a distinctive black mask.
