Hamiltonstovare Information
The Hamiltonstovare was developed in Sweden by crossing English Foxhounds and Harriers with some of the old German breeds.
The Hamiltonstovare usually hunts alone however has also been used in pairs. They are not pack hunters. They accompany the hunting party into the forest where they find and flush game back toward the guns, baying to indicate where he is at.
Though they do great as family dogs, they are hunters and need to be in a very active lifestyle. They need a lot of walks and free running to be happy. They should never be permitted off lead unless out on a hunt since they will find a scent and follow it.
They love human companionship and want to be close to their family. They are very intelligent and easy to train, and get along great with children. These dogs can take as much exercise as they can get, so plenty of time jogging or hiking would be appreciated.
The Hamiltonstovare is a very healthy breed and doesn't have any common health problems.
