Grand Gascon Saintongeois Information
The Grand Gascon Saintongeois was created by Baron Joseph de Carayon-LaTour. He came into possession of the only specimens of the Saintongeois hound that survived the French Revolution, one female and two males. He mated these with the Grand Bleu de Gascogne. The first generation of offspring were of excellent quality and the dogs were given the name Grand Gascon Saintongeois.
They have a smooth, weather resistant coat that is colored black and white. A mahogany colored marking called the mark of the deer is found at the back of the thigh above the hock and is an identifying feature of the breed.
Males should stand at 25 to 27 inches tall, females 23 to 25 inches.
