Estrela Mountain Dog Information
Flocks annually moved from the high Estrela plains where they grazed in summer to the lower elevations where they stayed from October to March. These dogs followed the same routes for centuries. As they traveled, the aristocracy confiscated a few of the dogs since they were such excellent guardians.
Estrela Mountain Dogs can be aggressive with other dogs, especially those of the same sex. They are very affectionate with their family and do wonderful with dog friendly children. They are very wary with strangers.
These are large dogs, males standing at 25 to 28 inches tall, females 24 to 27 inches.
