Epagneul Pont-Audemer Information
The Epagneul Pont-Audemer originated in France in the 1600's. Crosses involving the Irish Water Spaniel, or similar ancestral stock gave rise to this breed. Old French spaniels probably also contributed to the bloodline. The breed was developed in the area of Pont-Audemer in Normandy. After World War II, the breed declined drastically, and Irish Water Spaniels were used to increase numbers
Due to the Epagneul Pont-Audemer being scarce even today, a society has been established to safeguard its future.
The presence of a curly topknot gives this spaniel a distinctive appearance. The rest of the liver, or liver and white coat is long and curly.
They should be between 20-23 inches tall and weigh 40-53 pounds. Another name for the Epagneul Pont-Audemer is the Pont-Audemer Spaniel.
