Dunker Information
The Dunker originated in Norway in the 1800's. A breeder named Wilhelm Dunker crossed a Russian Harlequin Hound with scent hounds in order to produce a dog that could hunt rabbits by scent rather than sight. A merle gene from the Harlequin Hound gave the Dunker their distinctive mottled saddle markings.
Dunker's are very sleek and lightly built however are a powerful hound. They have a thick, short coat and are usually tan colored with blue marbled or black splotchy saddles.
Dunkers should be 18 to 22 inches tall and weigh between 35 - 49 pounds. Dunker's have also been called the Norwegian Hound.
