Dingo Information
The Dingo is a wild animal brought to Australia by the primitive man about 4,000 years ago. It is believed that the Dingo is an ancestor to all dog breeds and the base stock of 600 dog breeds.
The Dingo was originally kept by some Australian native groups as a source of emergency food. The Dingo became savage and returned to the wild. With the introduction of domestic sheep and rabbit, the Dingo population flourished because they were preying on mans' livestock.
These days, people are very concerned with preservation of the Dingo, however there are some who still consider the Dingo to be vermin and cannot legally be kept as a pet. Some areas have strict permit requirements for owning a Dingo. The federal government classifies the Dingo as wildlife and may not be exported unless it is to an approved wildlife park or zoo.
The Dingo has never been fully domesticated, and are almost never kept as a companion, however it has been done.
The Dingo has very intense eyes that can vary in color from orange to yellow.
