In 1955 an experiment took place in the CSSR of that time= the German Shepherd was crossed with a Carpathian Wolf. The experiment proved that the mating of a male dog to a female wolf, and a male wolf to a female dog could produce puppies.

Ten years later the experiment ended and a plan for the breeding of this new breed was worked out. The goal was to combine the usable qualities of the wolf with the qualities of a dog. By 1982, the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog was recognized as a national breed.

These dogs resemble a wolf, tall but light and strong. They are extremely confident and know exactly where their owner is at all times. They pay attention to their surroundings and always want a good view.

They have an incredible sense of direction and can run up to 62 miles per hour and react with lightening speed. No trail is too difficult for it to follow, day or night.

They can be a bit dog aggressive and are not usually trustworthy with other pets. They are typically good with children but very suspicious and watchful of strangers. This is not a breed for the first time dog owner, or the novice pet owner.
