Lure Coursing

Dogs in Competition
KryLeigh Kennels
Lure Coursing is open to members of the sitehound family- Whippets, Basenjis, Greyhounds, Afghan Hounds, Borzoi, Ibizan Hounds, Irish Wolfhounds, Pharaoh Hounds, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Salukis, and Scottish Deerhounds. The dogs must be at least one year old and cannot have breed disqualifications.

Lure Coursing is a chance for dogs to prove themselves doing what they were originally bred to do. For sighhounds, this means running down fleet-footed prey, sometimes over great distances.

Coursing dogs are scored on speed, enthusiasm, agility, endurance, and ability to follow the lure (a set of plastic bags).

Titles That Can Be Earned

  • Junior Courser (JC)
  • Senior Courser (SC)
  • Master Courser (MC)
  • Field Champion (FC)
