Chien D' Artois Information
The Chien D' Artois originated in France in the 1500s. This breed is named after the French province of Artois, where it was developed by crossing hounds and pointing breeds. Later infusions of British gundog blood almost resulted in the original breed's total disappearance. However, the number of pure Artois are now slowly recovering in France.
The Chien D' Artois is a small, well muscled tricolor scent hound and is one of the original breeds of French hunting dogs. It is the forerunner of many of the later breeds of hounds seen today.
The Chien D' Artois specializes in small game such as hare.
They should be 20 to 23 inches tall and weigh 40-53 pounds.
