Chart Polski Information
During late 19th century, many political and economic problems in Poland and surrounding countries caused the end of the large landowners. Due to that, hunting with sighthounds was impossible and the breed was nearly lost during World War I and World War II.
Since hunting with sighthounds is no longer allowed in Poland, other European countries such as Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Norway and Sweden had a growing following of the breed. The Chart Polski is used for hunting rabbit, deer and wolves.
They are very good tempered dogs, loyal and devoted to their family. They are very protective of their family and of their land and tend to be very suspicious of strangers. They require a great deal of socialization, firm and fair human leadership though should never be treated harshly.
Sighthounds should never be permitted offlead when not in a fenced in area. They can see small creatures such as rabbits and squirrels at far distances and will take off in pursuit.
