Bracco Italiano Information
The Braque Italian has been noted in paintings and writings from the 4th and 5th centuries BC. They are thought to have come from a crossing of a mastiff type dog with an Egyptian coursing hound.
In the 1700's Italian hunters developed this dog for hunting, tracking and pointing game, before guns were used and they were still using nets to capture game.
In the late 1980's, these dogs arrived in the UK but today are still very rare.
Males should be 22 to 26 inches tall, females 21 to 24 inches. Their coat is short and glossy and should be white, white with orange and chestnut markings or roan with solid markings.
The Braque Italian is a very intelligent and faithful dog. They get along great with children as well as with other dogs. They are best suited for active country homes where they can be a pet and a working dog. The Braque Italian is not recommended for first time dog owners or novice owners.
