Bavarian Mountain Hound Information
The Bavarian Mountain Hound originated in Germany in the 1800s. As its name suggests, this hound evolved in Bavaria in Germany, most likely from crossings between Hanoverian and Tyrolean hounds.
The group to which this hound belongs is described as schweisshunden, meaning "bloodhounds."
Rather shorter and ligher in build than similar breeds, this hound is highly valued for its tracking ability. It will continue on the trail until a wounded animal is found, rather than leaving it injured.
The Bavarian Mountain Hound is also known as the Bayrischer Gebirgschweisshund.
