Ariege Hound Information
The Ariege Hound originated in France. They were developed from a crossing of the Bleu de Gascogne and Briquet. The main purpose of this breed is for hunting rabbits and other small game. They tend to excel in driving game, coursing, hunting on hilly and/or rocky terrain or on the plains, tracking animals such as deer and wild boar.
They can range from 20.5 to 24 inches tall and weigh around 55 to 66 pounds. They have short, fine hair, similar to a Beagle. The coloring is white with strongly demarcated black markings, tan markings over the eyes and cheeks. Other colorings are also found in the breed.
This is a very rare breed in the United States and it may be difficult to find one without importing from France.
