American Alsatian Information
In the late 1960's a veterinarian began a breeding program to produce the greatest of all protection dogs. Many disagree what types of dogs went into the breeding program, but do agree that the American Pit Bull Terrier and a breed such as the Neapolitan Mastiff were most likely used.
They are very intelligent dogs. They were not bred to be fighting dogs however they tend to be very dog aggressive by nature. They excel in protection work however tend to have difficulty with the "bark" portion of the "bark and hold" since they're not a breed that gives a warning bark.
They love attention and spending time with their family. They are very loyal and do not like to be left alone. If upset, they may howl or become destructive. They're very protective of their family and property and will become extremely aggressive if anything threatens them.
They can get along with other animals if they are raised with them, including cats and other dogs. However if you try to bring in a new pet after your American Bandogge is a few years old, you will most likely have problems.
This is not a breed for the first time dog owner or a novice pet owner.
