The Alaskan Husky is not really considered a breed of dog, it's more of a type of dog. In simple terms, they're simply a sled racing dog that is a mixture of various arctic breeds. It is thought that Siberian Husky, setter, wolf, sight hounds or any other breed of dog that would give them more speed and endurance for racing has been used for the Alaskan Husky. They aren't bred for beauty, but more for their racing ability.
They are extremely athletic and have heavy coats to tolerate the low temperatures of their environment. They often have a curved sled dog tail such as the Siberian Husky possesses, and can have blue or brown eyes, or one of each. Most Alaskan Huskies ears stand straight up however there are a few that have flat laying ears.
They are typically reserved with strangers however do not usually make good watchdogs. They rarely bark but sometimes make yelping or howling noises. They are very clever dogs and
The main health concern with Alaskan Husky's is Entropion (inversion of the eyelids).
